Every journey is distinct, and mine has been a blend of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment. While my path had its twists and turns, each step was a lesson that molded me both as a person and a professional.
I began my academic pursuit at Stellenbosch University from 2013 to 2015. The subsequent years saw me attempting the CTA multiple times, with a brief hiatus in 2018 to celebrate personal milestones, including my wedding. By 2019, I triumphed in my third CTA attempt, securing my postgraduate diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences. The next few years were challenging as I navigated ITC exams, attempting it five times between 2020 and 2022.
In 2023, I faced another hurdle. As per SAICA regulations, a CTA is considered expired after three years. This meant I had to re-do my CTA to be eligible to attempt the ITC again. It was a testament to my determination to never give up, no matter the obstacles.
Parallel to my studies, my professional life took off in 2017 at Moore Johannesburg as an Audit Trainee. Here, I discovered my passion for Retirement Funds, which eventually led me to my current role as the Head of the Retirement Fund Department.
Throughout this journey, I’ve learned invaluable lessons:
- Stop Comparing Yourself to Others: Everyone’s journey is unique. Embrace yours.
- Embrace the Unexpected: Life won’t always go according to plan, and that’s okay.
- Failure is a Stepping Stone: It’s not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up.
- Plan B is Not a Sign of Defeat: Sometimes, a detour can lead you to your destined path.
Behind my journey was the unwavering support of my mentor, Candice Jenkins, the Head of Audit. Her calm demeanor, coupled with her constant encouragement, made even the most stressful situations manageable. Candice has been more than just a mentor; she’s been my cheerleader, guiding me through every challenge and celebrating every victory.
